Chiapas or Bust

Awake bright and early monday morning, we said a final adios to Lago Atitlán and headed on our way to the Mexican border, stopping for a quick breakfast Xela, our very first "home" in Guatemala.

goodbye Guatemala, hello Mexico

It was a really long day, but fortunately with zero issues at the border. And when we finally arrived at the home of our Mexican-Canadian family in Tuxtla Gutierrez, they were waiting up to greet us…..well, at least 2 of the 4 were up! If you've been reading this blog for a while now, I'm sure you remember our dear friends Mario, Kim, Lilian & Megan, our family away from family. We couldn't resist one more visit with them in their beautiful home and this time there was a surprise waiting for us!

His name is Diego and he's a little schnauzer pup!

We spent 3 great days with them having sleepovers, playing in the yard, assisting Chef Kim in making delicious meals, downing car bombs late at night, attending school performances, going to ballet class, running errands, visiting San Cristobal de Las Casas, and chasing after playful pups.

It was just the right way to help us wipe our sadness away and look forward to the adventures that Mexico has for us once again. Even though they were never exactly close to Antigua, we are really going to miss having the four of them somewhat nearby. Come see us soon!!
